400,000 Instagram sellers run real businesses with zero business infrastructure
My clothing label exists entirely inside Instagram: 40k followers, 300-400 orders a month, and an operations stack made of screenshots. Orders arrive as DMs, get confirmed in WhatsApp, tracked in a notebook, paid by bank transfer screenshot (some fraction of which are photoshopped — I check timestamps like a forensic accountant now), and shipped by whichever courier's rider answers. When Instagram restricted my account for 6 days over a copyright strike on background music, my business ceased to exist. I know Shopify exists. It is priced in dollars, assumes card payments, and my customers do not click links — they DM. What sellers like me need is native to how social selling actually works here: a DM-to-order pipeline, payment links that work with local wallets and verify automatically, courier booking with COD reconciliation (couriers holding my cash for 3 weeks is my biggest cash flow problem), and a catalog page that lives outside any one platform's ban-hammer. Build it mobile-only, price it in rupees per order, and every seller group on Facebook will do your marketing for you.
A high-conviction problem with strong founder-market fit signals. The combination of severe price asymmetry, accessible demographics, and existing infrastructure makes this buildable within 9 months by a small team.

DM-to-order pipeline with auto-verified payment links and courier COD reconciliation — the seller OS, mobile-only
Since posting the problem I have interviewed sixty sellers from my WhatsApp groups and the product spec wrote itself: a mobile app where a DM screenshot or forwarded message becomes an order card in two taps; payment links (wallet + bank) that auto-verify and kill the fake-screenshot forensics; courier booking across three providers with rate comparison; and the feature sellers cry about — COD reconciliation that tracks which courier owes what against which parcels, flagging the shortfalls we currently absorb silently. Catalog page hosted outside any platform's ban reach. PKR 15 per fulfilled order, no monthly fee — sellers pay when they earn. I am moving on this as founder; seeking a mobile developer co-founder and a payments integration engineer. My 40k followers become customer zero through one story post.
Start with just verified payment confirmation — the fake screenshot problem alone is worth an app
As a buyer in twenty seller groups: the trust breakdown moment is always payment confirmation — sellers demanding screenshots, buyers offended by verification interrogations, groups full of scam warnings both directions. A dead-simple payment link that shows the seller a real-time verified confirmation (and shows the buyer the seller's verified receiving identity) fixes the single worst interaction in social commerce. Ship that alone first; the order management can follow once ten thousand sellers trust the link. Sometimes the wedge is one feature done perfectly.
Seller communities as the distribution: certify 'power sellers' who onboard their group members for a share
These sellers learn everything from each other in group chats — tools will spread the same way or not at all. Recruit the admins of the big seller groups as certified ambassadors: they onboard members with hands-on help (the app's first-run experience happens in a voice call with someone they trust), earn a small share of their cohort's order fees, and feed feature requests upward. Forty group admins reach two hundred thousand sellers with built-in trust no ad budget buys. I moderate two such groups and volunteer as ambassador zero.
Discussion
I buy from six Instagram sellers regularly and every checkout is a trust ritual — screenshot, wait, confirm, pray. The verified payment link alone would upgrade the entire social commerce experience.
Boutique-to-Instagram seller: the COD reconciliation feature described is my biggest pain wearing product language. Couriers hold my cash three weeks and I discover shortfalls by accident. Take my money.
Home baker: my order chaos is identical minus the courier (I deliver locally). The DM-to-order card alone would give me back my evenings. Price it per order and every home business joins.
Agency view: we refuse social-seller clients currently because their ops cannot absorb the ad volume we generate. This stack makes them serviceable clients. The whole growth industry downstream benefits.
